Itinerary Description

Day 0: Arrival, Tour Briefing and Resting

• You will be picked up from the airport in Dar es Salaam ( Julius Nyerere International Airport) and be transferred to the booked hotel in Dar es Salaam
• Get the safari general briefing from the prepared safari consultant/guide
• Dinner and overnight at the booked hotel in Dar es Salaam

Day 1: Drive from Dar es Salaam to Mikumi National Park for a game drive

• Early in the morning after a breakfast at the hotel depart from Dar es Salaam and transfer by safari 4×4 vehicle to Mikumi National Park
• Here you will settle into Mikumi Wildlife Lodge
• This is well situated beside two waterholes with plenty of game to be seen from the bar
• Do an afternoon game drive until evening
• Have dinner and overnight stay at Mikumi Wildlife Lodge

Day 2: Full day game drive at Mikumi National Park

• Have an early breakfast at your hotel and leave for a game drive at Mikumi
• Full day exploring Mikumi National Park looking for lions, leopard, and other large game
• There is fantastic birding in Mikumi and you will see many raptors during your stay
• Break for a while in the afternoon to have lunch
• Continue with an afternoon game drive after lunch until evening
• Have dinner and overnight stay at Mikumi Wildlife Lodge

Day 3: Drive from Mikumi to Udzungwa National Park for a game drive

• Morning game drive, transfer (lunch on the way) to the Udzungwa Mountains National Park
• Here you will stay at Hondo Hondo Tented Camp in a luxury ensuite tent next to the forest
• Udzungwa is part of the Eastern Arc range of mountains and is known as the ‘Galapogos of Africa’ due to its high degree of endemism
• There are several endemic primates on site at Hondo Hondo and over 100 bird species may be seen.
• Have dinner and overnight stay at Hondo Hondo Tented Camp

Day 4: Full day game drive at Udzungwa Mountain National Park

• Morning after a hot breakfast leave for a game drive at Udzungwa
• Hike into the superb primary forest to the base and then the top of the spectacular 180m Sanje Waterfall looking for primates on the way (including the Iringa Red Colobus and SanjeMange by which are only found here)
• Swim in plunge pools, see endemic African Violets growing in the spray zones and have lunch in the forest on the top of the falls
• Descend after enjoying superb views
• Return to Hondo Hondo Tented Camp for dinner and overnight stay

Day 5: Drive from Udzungwa to Dar es Salaam

• Have an early breakfast at Udzungwa and have a morning game viewing
• Morning bird and monkey walk along the forest edge at Hondo Hondo
• Transfer to Dar es Salaam with lunch on the way
• Arrive in Dar es Salaam in good time where you can have an optional city tour in the evening if you wish to
• Have dinner and overnight stay at a hotel in Dar es Salaam
